Nursing Tutor, Practical Nurse/Associate of Science in Nursing Programs

Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY: Coach and mentor students to facilitate their success in reaching their goals to become a nurse. Meet with students individually and in groups to support them as they clarify, review and learn concepts taught in class and clinical experiences.

EDUCATIONAL

EXPERIENCE:

For the RN Associate of Science in Nursing program at least a Master of Science Degree in Nursing Education (MSN) is required or a Bachelor of Science Degree in nursing (BSN) with enrollment in an MSN program from an accredited college or university with expected completion within three years of hire.

For the Practical Nursing Certificate program at least a BSN is required from an accredited college or university and to meet the following requirements:

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Current licensure in good standing as a registered nurse in Massachusetts required
  • Minimum of three years full-time employment in clinical or educational nursing setting or its equivalent and evidence of clinical competence in area of instruction required;
  • Tutoring or teaching experience with excellent written communication skills.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of students.
  • The ability to effectively assist and assess student learning.
  • Willingness to work as a team member with staff, faculty and students.
  • Knowledge and commitment to Quincy College and Division of Nursing mission, vision, and philosophy.
  • Respect for the goals and experiences of a diverse group of students, staff and faculty including but not limited to age, gender, race, ethnicity, ability, sexual orientation, national origin or economic status.
  • Proficiency integrating electronic platforms as Zoom and learning management systems to effectively deliver tutoring instruction sessions.
  • Flexibility and commitment in work arrangements required. May require evening and weekend tutoring sessions.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None

TRAVEL: Occasional local travel may be required

Requirements:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Arrange tutoring sessions, individual or group, through Nursing Administrative Assistant.
  • Provide tutoring appointments as arranged. (Can be in person or via electronic platform based on students and tutor agreement)
  • Maintain communication with student’s classroom instructor regarding content topics to focus studying, progress of students tutored, and other concerns relevant to student’s success in course being tutored.

Complete Mandatory Training:

  • Title IX and Sexual Misconduct
  • Sexual Harassment and Non-discrimination
  • Security Policy and Notification of Security Reporting
  • FERPA
  • Municipal Ethics Law
