Job Overview
The Medical Observation Unit (Obsv Unit) at Royal Oak Hospital is a 54‑bed unit that provides observation level care for patients with medical conditions such as pain, cardiac issues, infection, geriatric and behavioral concerns. This RN position follows the ANA scope of practice and focuses on patient‑family centered care.
Responsibilities- Apply the nursing process—assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and discharge—to deliver high‑quality care.
- Assess and document patient status, update care plans, and evaluate outcomes under the guidance of the Nurse Leader.
- Collaborate with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary team to establish goals and develop teaching strategies.
- Document education, teaching, and learning activities in the health record.
- Complete shift documentation and facilitate rapid patient turnover, including discharge, transfer, and assessment tasks during a 12‑hour shift.
- Ensure compliance with Corewell Health policies, procedures, drug‑free workplace standards, and required vaccinations (MMR, Varicella, Tdap, Influenza).
- Associate's or Diploma in Nursing required.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing required within five years for an entry‑level RN.
- Graduates of non‑accredited nursing schools must have at least one year of acute care experience or two years in a licensed healthcare role and have passed the NCLEX.
- Michigan Registered Nurse license required within 60 days of hire.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon hire from an accredited organization.
- Knowledge of observation unit practices and ability to perform rapid patient turnover.
