Block Properties is a Boston-based residential real estate company with over 20 properties in the greater Boston area - Somerville, Cambridge, Jamaica Plain, Roslindale, West Roxbury, and Hyde Park.
Hours:This is a full-time position (40 hours / week);
Monday to Friday, plus on-call overtime rotation. Your usual hours will be from 8am to 4:30pm. However, you will be expected to work as necessary to meet the needs of the team and your targets, with the potential for overtime required during busy turnover seasons and for occasional after-hours emergencies.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of5+ years of experience
in residential property maintenance - Plumbing knowledge
- Electrical wiring capabilities
- Basic Carpentry knowledge
A maintenance technician performs ongoing facility maintenance and completes repairs on equipment. The duties include fixing machinery, plumbing, heating, and light electrical wiring. As a maintenance technician, you are responsible for fixing most problems that are discovered, before they have a chance to worsen. You will usually be required to perform a wide range of repair tasks around a property. Some others tasks include:
- Performing routine maintenance around residential apartment buildings such as fixing damage such as: window, door, lock, and wall repairs
- Painting, drywall, and patching of apartment walls, common areas, exterior of buildings
- Basic carpentry to handle basic repairs around the properties
- Handle apartment turnovers
- Light plumbing work including replacing faucets, traps, vanities, toilets, repairing broken or leaking plumbing to avoid water damage
- Light electrical work including swapping outlets, light fixtures, and to manage problems with the properties’ electricity
- Maintaining the apartments HVAC equipment to keep climate control in the apartment functioning properly
- Applying preventive measures to reduce the risk of future problems
- Fixing potential safety hazards to avoid injuries
- Keeping common areas and grounds clean
- Help with occasional snow shoveling
- The successful candidate will be an energetic, motivated, and organized team player
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Our ideal candidate would have excellent time-management
- Prioritization skills to balance resident requests with ongoing building maintenance needs
- Be flexible and willing to work as part of a team with other Block Properties maintenance technicians on 2-person jobs
- Valid MA Driver’s License and can drive Company-owned van
- Ability to work legally in the U.S.
- Ability to climb ladders more than 10 feet
- Ability to carry weight up to 45 lbs. without assistance
- Experience with property management or hospitality
- Starting salary: $32.00/hour to $37.00 per hour based on experience
