POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general direction of the Program Director of Exercise Science and Fitness Center, Fitness Center Instructors provide appropriate information, assistance and attention to each Quincy College Health & Fitness Center participant so that every training session will be a reinforcing exercise experience consistent with the Fitness Center's research-based training principles, protocols and procedures essential for productive exercise programs that maximize fitness benefits and minimize injury risks.
Fitness Instructors are responsible for member instruction is proper use of equipment, the guiding principles of exercise and training in a positive, professional, and safe manner, and maintain a safe, clean, and productive exercise training environment.
EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE: ACE Board Certified or completion of AS in Exercise Science Program at Quincy College or equivalent Exercise Science Program.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Completion of a formal training in exercise science through an AS, Certificate program, or equivalent in Exercise Science

Requirements:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- To instruct members in the proper use of the Nautilus strength machines, free weight equipment, cardiovascular equipment, and functional training apparatus.
- To instruct members in the proper application of The Health & Fitness Center's exercise principles and training guidelines.
- To provide personal encouragement and positive reinforcement to each member and class participant.
- To consult with members on their personal fitness program (including special needs and training considerations).
- To monitor and educate each member on heart rate and perceived exertion during cardiovascular and strength workouts.
- To attend each scheduled instructor training session.
- To clean and maintain The Health & Fitness Center at Quincy College and the equipment within.
- To promote a positive and productive exercise atmosphere by personal example.
- To ensure that all exercise participants act respectfully and train responsibly in The Health & Fitness Center at Quincy College.
- Maintain collaborative relationships with college personnel both within and outside the Center
- Participate in mandatory training/coursework. Including but not limited to:
- New Fitness Center Training Protocol
- Medical History Questionnaire
- Complete Fitness Assessment
- Equipment, cardiovascular, free weight and functional equipment training exercises
- Drug-Free Workplace
- Non-Smoking Policy
- Security Policy and Notification of Security Reporting
- FERPA
- Bi-Annual Municipal Ethics Law
- New Fitness Center Training Protocol
- Other duties as assigned.
