MULTILINGUAL STUDENT ADVOCATE

SUMMARY:

The ML Student Advocate position coordinates and facilitates the academic

and support needs of identified students to successfully transition to the next grade level,

complete high school, and promote the transition to postsecondary education or employment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

* Coordinate with school counselors, teachers and other appropriate staff to develop a list of

students most at-risk of not meeting state academic and achievement standards.

* Identify challenges including limited education, cultural and language barriers, and

other factors that students encounter.

* Coordinate access to services available through school district and/or community that

strengthen communication, self-advocacy, and academic skills.

* Facilitate understanding by student and family of district requirements toward graduation.

* Collect and organize data as needed for compliance and accountability.

* Participates in a variety of activities to enhance personal and professional skills.

* Performs related tasks consistent with the scope and responsibility of the position.

* Must have good human relations and interpersonal skills, demonstrated ability to keep

confidentiality and show initiative when appropriate.

* Other duties as assigned by the Program Director.

QUALIFICATIONS:

* Two years of study at an institiution of higher education, it must meet the criteria of the Higher Education Act, Section 101 (a). All classes must be at level 100 or higher, OR

* AA degree or higher OR

* Pass the ETS Para-educator test

* Previous experience in an educational setting preferred

* Experience with working with students and families of diverse linguistic and cultural backgroungs

* Spanish bilingual/biliterate required

* Demonstrate flexibility with schedule changes as students' needs change

* Ability to deal with students in a positive and confident manner; be fair and consistent when working with a culturally, racially, and economically diverse student population; adapt to change and remain flexible; organize activities; manage student behavior; use good judgment to maintain a safe learning environment

* Ability to build relationships and confidence of students and community

* Ability to meet and maintain punctuality and attendance expectations

* Excellent organizational skills

* Flexibility in work hours

* Valid WA State Driver's License

180-259 Day Employees
- Paid leave benefits to include 10 sick days, 10 paid holidays, and 3 personal leave days.

260 Day Employee-Paid leave benefits to include a minimum of 12 sick days, 13 paid holiday and 3 personal leave days and a minimum of 10 days' vacation after the first year.

* Benefits may be prorated based upon date of hire/hours per day.
