Job DescriptionSUMMARY: The Quincy School District seeks a dynamic choral and general music instructor to join our secondary music team, providing students with quality music learning and performing experiences. Assigned classes may include choral and vocal music, guitar, piano, and/or general music depending on student interest and the candidate's strengths and background.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Establish classroom goals and objectives, in alignment with courses of study specified by State and School District statutes, regulations and guidelines; evaluate students’ academic and social growth, keep appropriate records and prepare progress reports.
- Be available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day.
- Create an environment for learning through functional and attractive displays.
- Direct student teachers, teacher aides, tutors, and volunteers when such personnel are utilized.
- Attend or participate in all required staff meetings, committees, team building, field trips and other activities (may include overnight stay) deemed necessary.
- Participate in a variety of activities to enhance personal and professional skills.
- Perform related tasks consistent with the scope and responsibility of the position.
- Demonstrate good human relations and interpersonal skills, confidentiality, initiative when appropriate.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal or Superintendent.
- Currently hold or will hold by the start date a valid Washington State Teaching Certificate with a music-related endorsement required. Other degrees and certifications may be considered.
- Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
- Ability to teach beginning piano/keyboarding skills preferred.
- Ability to teach choral and vocal music.
- Ability to plan and facilitate student music performances for parents and community.
- Knowledge of subject areas appropriate to assignment; effective behavior management techniques; instructional techniques; rules and procedures for student safety.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and oral communications; effective communication with parents or guardians in a diverse community; designing and implementing lesson plans for students having a wide range of achievement.
- Ability to deal with students in a positive and confident manner; be fair and consistent when working with a culturally, racially, and economically diverse student population; adapt to change, remain flexible, organize activities, manage student behavior, use good judgment to maintain a safe learning environment; provide instruction and demonstrate techniques.
- Use necessary musical instruments, equipment, computers, or software.
- Establish and maintain effective, positive working relationships with students, parents or guardians, staff and administrators.
- Set and maintain high expectations of students and personal productivity and performance.
- Gain respect and confidence of students and community through modeling of appropriate behavior, methods and attire.
- Meet and maintain punctuality and attendance expectations.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to regularly walk, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, push, and pull.
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
