Summary

An elementary classroom teacher fosters and enhances an effective learning environment; facilitates the development or revision of curriculum and instructional materials; establishes effective rapport with students to motivate and develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for elementary grade education.

Essential Functions
  • Teach students the skills and attitudes to be successful in the subject matter in accordance with state statutes, district policy and adopted curriculum, to help prepare students for lifelong learning and success.
  • Develop and translate lesson plans along with instructional material to provide individualized and small group instruction, adapting the curriculum to the needs of each student.
  • Establish classroom goals and objectives in conformance with courses of study specified by state and school district statutes, regulations and guidelines; evaluate students’ academic and social growth, keep appropriate records and prepare progress reports.
  • Be available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day.
  • Create an environment for learning through functional and attractive displays and exhibits of student work.
  • Direct student teachers, teacher aides, tutors, and volunteers when such personnel are utilized.
  • Attend or participate in all required staff meetings, committees, team building, field trips and other activities (may include overnight stay) deemed necessary by the district and/or building principal.
  • Participate in a variety of activities to enhance personal and professional skills.
  • Perform related tasks consistent with the scope and responsibility of the position.
  • Possess good human relations and interpersonal skills, demonstrate ability to keep confidentiality and show initiative when appropriate.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Building Principal or Superintendent.
Qualifications
  • Currently have or will have by the start date a valid Washington State Teaching Certificate with an Elementary related endorsement required.
  • Extensive knowledge of subject areas and ability to have effective behavior classroom techniques and effective instructional techniques.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and oral communications.
  • Establish and maintain effective, positive communication and working relationships with students, parents or guardians, staff and administrators.
  • Designing and implementing lesson plans for students having a wide range of achievement.
  • Strong technical and word processing skills required.
