Student Intervention Specialist

Job Summary

The Student Intervention Specialist (SIS) supports students' academic and behavioral success under the direction of the Building Administrator or certificated designee. This role builds positive relationships with students and stakeholders, provides targeted interventions, teaches conflict‑resolution skills, assists in addressing attendance challenges, and reinforces school wide values and expectations for academic excellence. The SIS will support implementation of school wide practices and effective academic and behavioral strategies identified to meet the unique needs of students.

Functions
  • Restorative Justice Practices
    • Use restorative practices to proactively address and repair student relationships
    • Mediate conflict resolution(s)
    • Lead student circles
  • Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS)
    • Participate in PBIS committee meetings
    • Support SWIS data preparation
    • Implement PBIS rewards and supports
  • Academic Interventions
    • Participate in tutorials
    • Provide academic intervention support
    • Log and track academic growth for identified students
  • Behavioral Supports
    • Gather, share, and monitor pertinent information for the support of behavior intervention and positive outcomes
    • Implement Check‑in/Check‑out program to monitor at‑risk students and coordinate efforts with staff
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with a variety of methods
  • Support student supervision during non‑instructional and unstructured time to monitor interventions
  • Maintain regular and reliable attendance
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal/designee
Qualifications
  • Two years of study at a higher‑education institution meeting Section 101(a) of the Higher Education Act, all classes level 100 or higher; or an associate’s degree
  • Pass the ETS Para‑pro Assessment test or be in the process of completing para‑pro certification
  • Bilingual/Biliterate highly preferred
  • Experience working with P‑12 students
  • First Aid/CPR certification or ability to obtain
  • Basic computer literacy skills
  • Consistent punctuality and attendance
  • Flexibility with schedule changes as student needs change
  • Ability to work in noisy and crowded environments
  • Previous experience in an educational setting preferred

260 day employees receive a minimum of 12 sick days, 13 paid holidays, and 3 personal leave days, and a minimum of 10 vacation days after the first year. Benefits may be prorated based on date of hire/hours per day.
