Job Summary: The job of a middle school CTE teacher is to implement industry‑based instruction, incorporate essential standards, promote student achievement, provide guidance, counsel, supervision, discipline, and assess performance to enhance learning.
Responsibilities- Teach students skills and attitudes for successful careers in Skilled & Technical Science – Construction Trades, preparing them for lifelong learning and work.
- Foster an educational environment conducive to learning and maturation, planning instructional programs that meet individual and group needs, including at‑risk or special‑needs youth.
- Create a positive classroom atmosphere to encourage learning of essential skills, attitudes, and experience.
- Plan and prepare organized learning opportunities; set objectives to ensure mastery of district outcomes.
- Assess and evaluate student achievement; adapt and modify techniques and materials to promote progress; seek and recommend special assistance when appropriate.
- Assist students in building self‑esteem and responsible behaviors; model appropriate behavior; maintain fair and consistent classroom management.
- Recognize and reward student behavior; discipline students as necessary; ensure student safety.
- Evaluate and record progress; prepare progress and grade reports; administer tests as needed.
- Attend or participate in required staff meetings, committees, team‑building, field trips, and other activities, including overnight stays, as necessary for professional achievement.
- Perform related tasks consistent with the scope of the position.
- Demonstrate strong human‑relations skills, confidentiality, and initiative.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the CTE Director, Building Principal, or Superintendent.
- Valid Washington State CTE Skilled & Technical Science – Construction Trades & STEM Teaching Certificate for grades 7‑12 (required); earned by start date.
- Valid First Aid/CPR with AED certification (required); earned by start date.
- Extensive knowledge of Construction and STEM curricula (Construction 1 & 2, Pre‑Engineering 1 & 2, Applied Math, Construction Math).
- Experience in active leadership, guidance, and supervision of students in QMS TSA Chapter (desired).
- Use a variety of instructional strategies to promote equity and excellence with a diverse student population.
- Incorporate industry skills and competencies into lessons and course framework for all achievement levels.
- Skillfully use and demonstrate classroom equipment and tools, ensuring safety.
- Strong technical and word‑processing skills; competent use of technology daily.
- Proficiency in reading, writing, and oral communication; collaborate with other CTE teachers on curriculum development.
- Maintain effective, positive communication with students, parents, staff, and administrators.
- Handle students positively, fairly, and consistently; adapt to change; organize activities; manage behavior; use good judgment to create a safe learning environment.
- Lead and direct the Skilled & Technical Science & STEM Advisory Committee; support development of the department’s five‑year plan.
- Commit to the profession through curriculum projects, committees, professional organizations, and continuing education.
- Set and maintain high expectations for students.
- Model appropriate behavior, methods, and attire to gain respect and confidence of students and community.
- Meet punctuality and attendance expectations.
Physical Requirements
Requirements include regular walking, sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 30 lbs.
