Job Purpose
The Instructional Designer is responsible for designing, developing, and continuously improving learning experiences that support operational effectiveness and precision farming training initiatives. This role focuses on applying adult learning principles to create engaging, scalable, and effective training solutions for dealer technicians, internal employees, and end-user customers.
The Instructional Designer works closely with technical subject matter experts, training developers, and stakeholders to translate complex technical and operational topics into clear, learner-centered training delivered through web-based, virtual, instructor-led, and performance-support formats.
The position is based in Ames, IA;
Racine, WI;
New Holland, PA;
Sioux Falls, SD; or Saskatoon, SK.
Key Responsibilities
* Design and develop learner-centered training solutions using adult learning principles, instructional design models, and best practices (e.g., task-based learning, scenario-based learning, microlearning).
* Lead instructional design efforts for operational support and precision farming training, including web-based training, virtual instructor-led training, instructor-led classroom materials, videos, job aids, and performance support tools.
* Partner with subject matter experts, product support, and training developers to analyze learning needs and define appropriate learning objectives, assessments, and delivery methods.
* Translate complex technical, operational, and software-based processes into clear, structured, and engaging learning experiences for audiences with varying levels of experience.
* Establish and maintain instructional design standards, templates, and guidelines to ensure consistency, quality, and scalability across training programs.
* Review existing training content and recommend improvements to structure, clarity, instructional effectiveness, and learner engagement.
* Support development of customer-facing training content by ensuring appropriate disclaimers, tone, and learning approaches are applied in collaboration with stakeholders.
* Collaborate with trainers and facilitators to ensure instructional materials support effective delivery and learner engagement.
* Evaluate training effectiveness through feedback, assessments, and performance data, and make data-driven recommendations for continuous improvement.
* Stay current on learning technologies, instructional design trends, and digital learning tools to enhance training strategies and delivery methods.
Experience Required
* Bachelor's Degree with three years of relevant experience OR;
* Associate degree with five years of relevant experience OR;
* High School Diploma/GED with eight years of relevant experience related to instructional design, training development, technical education, or equivalent.
* Two or more years of instructional design or training development experience.
* Strong understanding of adult learning methodology and instructional design best practices.
* Experience developing training for technical, operational, or systems-based content.
* Excellent written communication skills with the ability to structure complex information clearly.
* Proficiency with training development tools such as Articulate Storyline, Rise, Adobe tools, PowerPoint, or equivalent.
* Ability to collaborate effectively with subject matter experts and cross-functional teams.
* Ability to travel up to 10-20% as needed.
