Special Education Teacher, Special Needs / Learning Disabilities
Position Summary
This position will deliver Special Education (SPED) instruction, aids, and services to all eligible students as specified in the student’s Individual Education Program (IEP). Duties will include, but are not limited to, maintaining student records, evaluating student needs, providing specialized services, assessing and reporting progress, purchasing/use/tracking of specialized resources, and utilizing professional development opportunities. The teacher will maintain security in the Education Department.
SalaryInformation
This position is in pay schedule and range 13-04, with a starting pay of $30.01/hour - $35.76/hour, plus excellent benefits. Supplemental pay up to $2.97/hour may be available for applicants with credits earned over and above those needed for basic certification. Pay will be set in accordance with the Compensation Plan and Wisconsin Administrative Code in effect at the time of hire.
A twelve month probationary period is required.

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e. a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, or an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application.
The Department of Corrections may conduct pre-employment drug screens. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre-employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency of employment.
The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.
This position is not eligible for remote work.
Special RequirementsMust be licensed in Special Education by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction by the appointment date. Acceptable license areas include Specific Learning Disabilities (SLD - 811), Emotional Behavioral Disabilities (EBD-830), Intellectual Disabilities (-810), and/or the Categorical SPED license.
