Description
Education/Training:
High school diploma or equivalent required. College course work leading to elementary teaching certification preferred.
2-3 years working with elementary level students preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities- Ability to work well with students, staff, and public.
- Ability to organize and prioritize work load.
- Must have good independent judgment in routine and non-routine situations.
- Ability to identify similarities/differences in comparing colors, forms and sounds.
- Must be patient and innovative.
- Must have willingness and ability to follow detailed verbal and written directives.
- Must have good oral and written communication skills.
- Must work well under directions from two or more supervisors.
- Must be accurate and detailed in work performance.
- Must be creative and resourceful.
- Must be a positive role model for students.
- Must be dependable, punctual and have a good attendance record.
- Must have good evaluations.
- Must have a positive attitude toward education.
- Must be aware of and sensitive to the needs of students.
- Must be willing to update educational skills.
- Must have Physical stamina, and be able to reach, stoop/kneel, crouch/crawl, push/pull, lift/carry, climb/balance, stand and walk constantly, and lift/carry up to 50 pounds.
- Discusses assigned instructional materials with teacher to coordinate instructional efforts.
- Plans, prepares, and develops teaching aids such as bulletin boards, art media, etc. under teacher's direction.
- Presents subject matter to students utilizing a variety of methods and techniques.
- Assists students individually or in groups with lesson assignments to present or reinforce learning concepts.
- Distributes teaching materials to students.
- Assists in keeping order in the classroom.
- Supervise students during lunch, recess, and bus loading.
- Assist in activities that promote understanding between school and community.
- May supervise a classroom when a teacher is called away due to an emergency.
- Devote attention to children needing discipline and special attention.
- Send notes home with teacher's approval.
- Escort students to and from class.
- Assist the teachers in preparing and organizing instructional materials.
- Track each student's progress to provide information to teachers for instruction/reinstruction.
- Assist with supervision of field trips.
- Assist with supervision during emergency situations.
- Participates in inservice sessions in the building and at program levels.
- May assist the office staff with processing calls, mail, etc.
