Position Summary
The Supplier Quality Manager (SQM) is responsible for leading the Supplier Quality function to ensure a robust, capable, and continuously improving supply base that meets Modine's expectations for quality, delivery, and reliability. This role oversees Supplier Quality Engineers, drives supplier performance across new product introduction (NPI), ongoing production, and field warranty support, and ensures effective governance of supplier-related quality processes. The SQM will partner closely with Engineering, Supply Chain, Operations, and Program Management to minimize risk, resolve quality issues, and enable successful product launches for Modine's global businesses.
Key Responsibilities Leadership & Team Development- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Supplier Quality Engineers at varying levels of experience.
- Establish objectives, performance metrics, and standard work aligned to company and plant quality goals.
- Build organizational capability through technical coaching and continuous skills development.
- Set clear quality expectations for all suppliers in alignment with Modine's standards and customer requirements.
- Oversee deployment of APQP for new or modified components and ensure timely, robust PPAP submissions.
- Direct supplier audits, process reviews, and ongoing supplier development initiatives.
- Maintain supplier scorecards and ensure proactive risk management for critical suppliers.
- Own incoming material quality performance, including containment, disposition, and corrective action follow-up.
- Ensure rapid response and effective problem-solving for supplier-related issues affecting production.
- Monitor supplier KPIs (PPM, corrective action closure, response time, process stability) and escalate risk when necessary.
- Collaborate with Engineering and Supply Chain during sourcing and early design phases to influence manufacturability and identify quality risks.
- Ensure supplier readiness for launch through process capability reviews, control plan validation, and sample approval.
- Support Make vs. Buy analysis with supplier capability insights.
- Partner with Warranty Engineering to drive supplier accountability for field failures.
- Ensure closed-loop feedback linking warranty issues to corrective action and supplier process improvements.
- Lead systemic quality improvement initiatives using methodologies such as 8D, 5
Why, Ishikawa, and Six Sigma. - Work cross-functionally to reduce supplier-related scrap, rework, and downtime.
- Establish dashboards and reporting to communicate supplier performance to senior leadership.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a technical field (Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, Electrical).
- 10+ years of experience in supplier quality, manufacturing quality, or operations. Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, quality tools, and engineering documentation.
- 5+ years of leadership or team management experience. Ability to coach, mentor, and build capability within a technical team.
- Strong working knowledge of APQP, PPAP, FMEA, MSA, SPC, GD&T, and ISO/IATF quality system requirements.
- Demonstrated success leading supplier corrective actions, audits, and development activities.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and manufacturing processes.
- Strong analytical and data-driven decision-making skills.

Why, Ishikawa, DMAIC, and structured problem-solving. - Excellent communication, executive presence, and cross-functional collaboration abilities.
- Master's degree in Engineering, Quality, or Business.
- Experience with industrial HVAC, refrigeration, thermal systems, or data center cooling equipment.
- Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
- Experience with global supply base management.
- Domestic and international travel up to 50%, depending on supplier locations.
