Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Job Summary
Hydro Maintenance Mechanic position will be filledas an A,B, C or Dbased on qualifications and experience. The individual in this position is responsible for performing tasks related to the operation and maintenance of the plantand all related equipment and facilities.
The individual in this position is expected to respond to call outs on an as needed basis.
The following list sets forth the principal duties required for the jobat all levels. This list is not intended to limit assignment of work or the degree of supervision under all operating conditions. Employee may perform miscellaneous, related, and incidental work in addition to that specifically outlined below.
- All Eagle Creek Racine employees are responsible for working in a safe manner.
- Maintain a safe work environment for themselves and others.
- Become familiar with environmental limits and regulations which impact Racine Hydro and work to avoid any violations or deviations.
- Qualify in and maintain qualifications for performing general plant operations to include:
Starting and stopping the Hydro Units, performing daily walkdowns and plant readings, completing daily paperwork as required. - Perform Lock-Out/Tagout activities per established guidelines and procedures.
- Assist with the development of new LOTOand other safety procedures.
- Identify abnormal plant conditions and takethe appropriate corrective actions in a safe responsible manner.
- Participate in company safety programs.
- Generation of maintenance reports including follow-up actions.
- Complying with company standards, practices, and policies.
- Assisting in developing and improving maintenance procedures.
- Perform maintenance tasks as assignedor required.
- Respond to all emergencies and plant maintenance/operations when ‘On-Call’.
- Performance of other duties as assigned.
The "D" Mechanic spends much of the gradebecoming oriented to a Hydro plant. It is a learning stage where often the equipment and tools are new to the individual. They must perform duties as a helper to "C", "B", and "A" mechanics, as well as learn Company rules and procedures related to Job Safety, Environmental Protection, Operations, Basic Skills and Maintenance of hydro power plant structures and equipment.
Skills and job knowledge will be developed through training resources such as classrooms, videos, computers, and on the job demonstrations.
Education, Licenses and
Certifications:
- Associate degree in engineering, industrial or energy technology; OR Associate degree in another discipline and two (2) years of related work experience
- OR high school diploma with four (4) years of related work experience; OR high school diploma with two (2) years of related military experience.
- Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license.
- Ability to climb ladders and stairs
- Must be comfortable working around water.
- Ability to routinely lift 50 lbs.
- Ability to wear Personal Protective equipment such as hard hats, safety glasses, hearing protection and other PPE as may be required.
- Utilize a working knowledge of hand tools andportable power tools and their correct usage in orderto maintain plant equipment.
- Utilize a working knowledge of basic measuringtools such as rules, scales, straight edges, dividers,squares and protractors, layout simple figures on flatsurfaces.
- Calculate areas, volumes, weights, etc. utilizingbasic mathematical concepts.
- Comprehend moderately complex written materialsuch as procedures, instructions, technical manuals,etc.
- Assist employees of a higher classification.
- Prepare and maintain records as required. Thiswill include the accurate completion of job ordersand writing new ones.
- Assist in obtaining
LOTOclearance permits and ensure that the equipment to be worked on has been properly cleared and tagged before work begins. - Assist employees and perform similar or lessskilled duties as assigned.
- Work with employees of higher classification to gain “on-the-job” training to improve skills and advance to the next Hydro Mechanic level.
