Position: Production Supervisor (1st shift)

Overview

The Production Supervisor is responsible for the direct supervision of hourly staff across multiple manufacturing departments. The role ensures the most efficient and economical performance of operations in accordance with quality standards and production schedules, while maintaining organization and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities
  • Provide direct supervision to hourly employees in a union manufacturing environment and manage workflow and productivity, offering guidance and coaching.
  • Communicate and transfer knowledge to direct reports for training purposes.
  • Engage daily with managers and peers on overall operating conditions and recommend improvements to procedures, methods, and techniques.
  • Set goals and objectives with direct reports and monitor progress.
  • Utilize operational metrics and a floor‑presence approach to maintain close surveillance over manufacturing operations, ensuring scheduled workflow, utilization of manpower and skills, machines, tooling methods, and machine repairs.
  • Audit labor and machine reporting regularly for accuracy and efficiency in line with standard production methods, rates, and schedules.
  • Use manufacturing software systems for materials management, shop floor scheduling, packaging, and equipment operation.
  • Help develop and implement operational solutions using lean manufacturing methods in a team environment.
  • Identify, investigate, and analyze problems related to materials, quality, equipment, methods, tools, etc., and initiate corrective action.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations, company policies, labor contract provisions, and administer disciplinary action when necessary.
  • Adhere to all applicable safety procedures, ensure proper utilization of safety equipment, maintain housekeeping methods, and stay alert for hazardous conditions.
  • Conduct performance appraisals, attendance reviews, and recommend wage adjustments and promotions.
  • Develop and implement training programs for new and existing employees to build a flexible workforce.
  • Work in a manufacturing environment and be able to walk or stand for prolonged periods.
Education and Experience
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 5+ years of experience in operations with prior supervisory or lead experience.
Qualifications
  • Familiarity with Material Safety Data Sheets.
  • CPR and First Aid training, or ability to obtain them.
  • Strong critical thinking skills to make important decisions for the team and business operations.
  • Ability to think and react quickly to production challenges.
  • Time‑management skills; capacity to manage many projects or tasks simultaneously.
  • Conflict‑resolution abilities.
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office.
