Job Overview

This position is responsible to the Facilities Manager to fulfill the mission, vision, and commitments of Honey Rock by building, repairing, and maintaining the facilities and building systems, as directed, while developing seasonal staff and students who work in those areas. This is a professional,
full-time volunteer position located in the Northwoods of Wisconsin. The ability to serve part-time is also an option.
On-site housing is an option, depending on family size and facility availability. Dining hall lunches (Monday-Friday) are provided at no charge.

Duties and Responsibilities May Include:

  • Execute general facility maintenance and repairs. Receive and resolve maintenance Work Orders related to mechanicals (plumbing, electric, and HVAC), general maintenance/carpentry, and various facility repairs. Repair or replace plumbing and electrical fixtures as needed. Resolve slow drains, auger and remove sewer line clogs and blockages. Maintain laundry machines, dryers, and ventilation fans. Maintain HVAC equipment, inspecting and changing filters as needed.

    Maintain vacuums and support Guest Services operationally as needed. Maintain and repair screens, windows, doors, and locksets as needed. Resolve pest control issues as needed. Use sign-maker to make signs and plaques as needed for various buildings and programs.
  • Inspect and maintain building systems. Inspect equipment and systems as required (daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, or annually). Inspect and maintain wells, water conditioning systems, sewer, and septic fields. Inspect and maintain life safety systems (fire panels, smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, and AEDs).
  • Provide general site and facility support. Assist with construction projects as needed. Participate in after-hours / weekend on-call duties with other Site and Facility Staff. Procure materials as needed from Town for Site and Facilities Team. Assist in facility winterization and startup of seasonal buildings.
  • Assist with grounds and snow removal. Perform grass mowing, snow removal, general grounds, or site projects as needed, including landscaping and barn support.
  • Fulfill the mission of Honey Rock through our leadership progression, internships, and various programs as participants serve Site and Facilities as part of their experience ter a culture of developmental coaching and vocational discipleship through growth producing experiences and training as appropriate. Mentor, train, and apprentice seasonal staff, volunteers, and campers. Contribute to the spiritual life and ministry of Honey Rock.

    Participate in the community life of Honey Rock in an active way.

Qualifications

  • Ability to work independently and accept supervision—self-directed work.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience working in construction or facility maintenance environment is preferred.
  • Ability preferred to troubleshoot, repair, and replace basic mechanical parts and equipment related to plumbing, electric, and HVAC.
  • Ability preferred to perform basic woodworking and/or carpentry tasks.
  • Ability to meet Wheaton College driving standards, including valid U.S. driver’s license for six years and good driving record.
  • Knowledge of and ability preferred to operate power tools required.
  • Ability preferred to operate equipment and machinery (mower, snowplow, etc.).
  • Ability to read technical manuals, computer literate.
  • This position is regularly required to stand, walk, reach overhead, push/pull, kneel, climb ladders, and lift up to 70 lbs.
  • Ability to work in hot/cold environments; at a height in a safe manner; in attics and crawlspaces.
