Job Description

POSITION TITLE: Art Teacher-Elementary

QUALIFICATIONS: Must hold proper state certification with an endorsement in Visual Arts.

REPORTS TO: Principal and/or other Supervisor

Job Responsibilities:

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plans and implements the instructional program for assigned subject area(s) following the school and school division policies, regulations, procedures, and the Virginia Standards of
  • Employs a variety of teaching methods and instructional materials to meet the range of student abilities and needs, including available instructional tech
  • Monitors student behavior and maintains discipline for a safe learning envi Encourages appropriate behavior standards acceptable in the school community.

  • Maintains accurate student records as required by the school, school division, and state of Virginia policies and procedures. Maintains strict confidentiality regarding student
  • Participates in the testing program by utilizing appropriate instructional strategies to assist students in the highest levels of achievement. Follows all school, school division rules and regulations and state and federal laws regarding testing.
  • Effectively communicates with parents regarding their child’s educational progress via periodic written reports and verbal communications including, but not limited to scheduled progress reports, report cards, and parent/teacher conference days as per school and school division policies and
  • Effectivity communicates with teachers, grade level specialist, and administrators on the progress and attendance of students.
  • Works cooperatively with supervisors and colleagues in order to ensure continuous improvement in providing the highest quality educational program and the safest and most inviting educational environment.
  • Fosters an inviting learning environment and high expectations among staff, students, parents and the greater
  • Participates in professional development opportunities for personal and professional growth.
  • Plans, attends and/or participates in special events as requested by administrators including, but not limited to, field trips, and school assemblies.
  • Maintains a professional image in the school and community as a representative of the School
  • Maintains the appropriate license for the subject area(s) in the State of
  • Follows the regulations and policies of the Radford City Public Schools as well as State and Federal
  • Other duties as assigned by school administrators.

Minimum Training and

Experience:

Four-year degree from an accredited college or university on the state of Virginia approved list. Hold a Virginia license in the appropriate teaching area or eligibility for a Virginia license with application for the Virginia license within 90 days of employment. If acquiring a provisional license, must show continuous yearly progress toward achieving a clear Virginia license within the three-year period.

Conditions of Employment: Employment with Radford City Schools is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background investigation and child protective services registry check.

Licensure/Certification: Employees in positions requiring professional licensure must hold or be eligible for appropriate Virginia licensure with the required endorsement(s) at the time of employment and must maintain such licensure throughout employment.

Physical Requirements: Employees must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation. Physical demands may include, but are not limited to, standing for extended periods, supervising students in various settings, moving throughout school facilities, and lifting instructional materials or equipment.
