This position is for a Platform Engineer supporting the Army Edge Computing Capability (AECC) project that ALTESS is fielding for the US Army. The AECC solution is a containerized, Kubernetes-based, multitenant hosting environment for hosting Army enterprise and tactical applications. AECC is utilizing Kubernetes and potentially Red Hat Open Shift to implement a cloud-native, software-defined infrastructure across multiple global sites. ALTESS provides value-added common and managed services built on top of the Kubernetes foundation, which hosted Army applications will require.
ALTESS is a managed service provider (MSP) and hosting services provider for Army applications. ALTESS is a Product Lead office under Capability Program Executive (CPE) Enterprise Software and Services (CPE ES2).
- Location:Radford, VA (Hybrid telework/onsite as needed)
- Security Clearance:Active DoD Secret
- Education:Bachelor’s degree or higher in an IT-related field
- Experience:Mid-to-senior level experience building and administering enterprise Kubernetes clusters
- Work Schedule:Full-time
- Baseline:Security+ or equivalent DoD 8570.01-M IAT Level II
- Computing Environment:Must obtain a certification (CKA, Red Hat Open Shift Specialist, or CKS) within 6 months of hire
- Architecture Support:Collaborate with Government engineers to maintain the AECC Kubernetes platform.
- IaC Deployment:Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code pipelines for platform deployment and sustainment.
- Platform Administration:Perform daily patching and upgrades of all Kubernetes components, including the control plane and worker nodes.
- Namespace Provisioning:Utilize IaC to provision customer name spaces and containerized workloads for hosted applications.
- Cluster Administration:Proficiency in building and configuring enterprise Kubernetes clusters.
- Kubernetes Networking:Understanding of CNI plugins (Calico, Cilium), ingress controllers, and DNS management.
- Image Management:Experience with container registries like Harbor or Red Hat Quay.
- Automation:Strong skills in Ansible, Terraform, and Python.
- DoD Policy:Knowledge of DoD STIGs and the IAVM process.
- Dev Sec Ops :Familiarity with integrating CI/CD pipelines for containerized workloads.
