Job Shift: Day

The licensed Nursing Supervisor is responsible for the clinical support of licensed nurses and Certified Nursing Assistants, and other ancillary non-licensed clinical employees who provide direct and in-direct nursing care to patients. The nurse supervisor will provide or coordinate disease specific-educational support for patients/family members and assist with in-service training for clinical employees. The nurse Supervisor will be clinically proficient in nursing related skills and will have a current CPR card issued through the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross.

Functions

Administrative

  • Serves as liaison between the clinical team, physician/physician extenders, diagnostic agencies and sources of referrals for new patients.
  • Advocates on behalf of the clinical team by supporting and promoting a team environment.
  • Supports and participates in the center’s Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement Program.
  • Participates on committees as needed or assigned.
  • Reports pertinent clinical personnel issues and patient-care areas of concern to the Director of Nursing.

Clinical

  • Supervises and directs licensed and non-licensed nursing employees.
  • Promote and maintains an effective working relationship with physicians/physician extenders, lab, and pharmacy partners to ensure the proper, timely, and safe care of patients.
  • Promotes and maintains an effective collaborative working relationship with nursing employees, other departments, patients, families, visitors, and other health care centers.
  • Directs and supervises the delivery of patient care.
  • When indicated, perform patient assessment, plan, and implement appropriate nursing care and management for the well-being of a patient, including documentation of supporting interventions and follow-up.
  • Report significant changes in a patient’s condition to other clinical team members (including physician/physician extender, patient, and legal representative) and complete required documentation.
  • Routinely conduct chart audits to validate that nursing care documentation is appropriate, accurate, and timely.
  • Keep nursing administration and management informed regarding evaluations of patient care and employee practice/behavioral concerns.
  • Participate in clinical rounds with medical providers when indicated to provide pertinent information regarding the patient’s care/condition and follow through with orders.
  • Review physician/physician extender orders, diagnostic and pharmacy reports. Follow up with pharmacy regarding a change in medication.
  • Address complaints and follow-up in a timely manner. Keep nursing administration informed of complaint/follow-up outcomes.
  • Complete accident/incident reports as indicated with follow-up. Submit accident/incident report to administrative nursing staff.
  • Perform and/or assist with patient care tasks as indicated (e.g., phlebotomy, initiate IV therapy, manage central lines, wound care management, administer medications, insert indwelling urinary catheter, tracheostomy/colostomy/ileostomy care, manage enteral therapy for patients with feeding tubes, and other nursing procedures).
  • Assist in the development of the patient’s plan of care and assist updating the plan of care as indicated.
  • Participate in the admission, discharge, and transfer of patients.
  • Provide reports for new patient admissions, ensuring rooms are ready and prepared prior to patient arrival.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Current nursing license in good standing with the Virginia Department of Health Professions.
  • Two years of nursing management in acute/post-acute or urgent care, preferred.
  • Demonstrates excellent clinical, customer service and leadership skills.
  • Current CPR Healthcare Provider certification.
Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods standing, walking, working and frequently pulling, pushing, and bending.
  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds at a time.
  • Must be able to move 150 pounds with assistance.
