Director, Commercial Strategy Development
Role OverviewThe Enterprise Strategy Office (ESO) develops and implements enterprise strategy, focusing on commercial initiatives. This role leads strategy development for enterprise‑critical commercial initiatives, works cross‑functionally with senior leaders, and builds coalition support to create value and drive change.
Reporting to the Associate Vice President, Head of Commercial Strategy Development, Enterprise Strategy.
Location:
Rahway, NJ (preferred). Candidates from Upper Gwynedd, PA will be considered.
- Lead and support the development of enterprise critical commercial initiatives.
- Identify opportunities, create evaluations, and recommend actions in collaboration with commercial executive leaders.
- Partner in implementation of critical commercial priorities requiring cross‑divisional collaboration and negotiation.
- Use or develop strategic frameworks to evaluate options and conduct analyses to support recommendations.
- Provide outside‑in perspectives, bringing new ideas and priorities to commercial leadership.
- Collaborate with commercial leaders on prioritized therapeutic area needs and launch excellence.
- Manage internal and external associates dedicated to programs, fostering psychologically safe engagements and strategic perspectives without formal authority.
- Bachelor’s degree required;
Master’s or Ph.D. preferred. - 4+ years of strategy management consulting experience from a top‑tier firm (BCG, McKinsey, Bain).
- Minimum 5+ years of biopharmaceutical experience with increasing responsibility, including US/Global marketing and asset launches.
- Background in commercial strategy, marketing, market access, or analytics is valuable.
- Create structured frameworks and conduct analytical “what you need to believe” type analyses to drive recommendations.
- High business acumen to distill complex commercial problems and produce actionable recommendations.
- Analytical expertise and external landscape knowledge for data‑driven insights.
- Strong influence and decision‑making ability in a matrixed organization with high emotional intelligence.
- Thrives in ambiguity and delivers high‑priority initiatives by aligning cross‑functional stakeholders.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to influence senior management.
- Growth mindset, curiosity, strong organizational skills, and willingness to learn.
- Business development, commercial awareness, industry knowledge, innovation, portfolio strategies.
- Strategic consulting and strategy execution experience.
Salary Range: $ – $ (effective 2023). Eligibility for annual bonus and long‑term incentive. Comprehensive benefits include medical, dental, vision, retirement (401(k)), paid holidays, vacation, and compassionate/sick days.
