Associate Director – Advanced Strategy & Procurement, Large Molecule Pipeline
The Associate Director will support pipeline products as they hand off from our Research & Development Division to our Manufacturing Division, ensuring launch readiness strategy and providing strategic sourcing solutions. The role will collect and synthesize market trends, competitive landscape, supplier dynamics and industry best practices to inform sourcing strategies. The Associate Director will lead the development and refinement of end‑to‑end sourcing strategies, collaborate with cross‑functional teams, and communicate recommendations to senior stakeholders.
ResponsibilitiesLeadership
- Accountable for development and implementation of robust sourcing strategies linked to core business deliverables.
- Delivers results and leads cross‑functional teams.
- Upon approval, oversees execution of sourcing levers (RFx, negotiations, contracts).
- Provides functional leadership, strategy, and policy input to build a high‑performance engagement model with business.
- Partners with stakeholders outside Procurement to align objectives, timelines, and risk tolerance.
- Assesses early Bill of Material for risks and identifies materials requiring sourcing; mitigates risks.
- Champions structured sourcing management, ensuring documentation, compliance, and transparency.
- Drives strategic projects such as portfolio harmonization, dual sourcing implementation, and cost‑to‑serve optimization.
- Utilizes structured sourcing process and rigor.
- Creates breakthrough strategies delivering quick wins and sustainable business value.
- Identifies innovation opportunities from suppliers and the external market.
- Applies high‑quality change management practices with customers and stakeholders.
- Role models Company Leadership Standards, demonstrating accountability, inclusion, and enterprise thinking.
- Ensures supplier relationships focus on continuous improvement and supports measurement and review processes.
- Identifies and implements improvement initiatives across sourcing processes, tools, and analytics.
- Engages and influences business colleagues using problem‑solving, transparency, and proactive communication.
- Builds and maintains a sourcing management pipeline, aligning stakeholders and prioritizing activities.
- Supports expansion of relationships and spend with suppliers.
- Understands business requirements on 1/3/5 year horizons and partners with GP and peers to drive cost reductions.
- Implements Supplier Value Management to foster innovation, manage performance, and establish governance.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Science or Engineering.
- Minimum seven years’ experience in the Pharma Industry.
- Minimum two years’ experience in procurement, supply management or related areas.
- Experience with product development and commercialization.
- Experience with CMO commercialization and strategy development.
- Strong negotiation, stakeholder management, and financial acumen.
- Strong technical skills and understanding of process development needs and challenges, GMP manufacturing environment, technologies, costing, supply chain, and operational management.
- Direct experience in a GMP manufacturing environment and deep understanding of technology complexity versus cost.
- Experience with data analysis and visualization tools (e.g., dashboards) to support decision making.
