Job OverviewThe Nurse Practitioner is responsible for performing duties independently following established and standardized procedures, referring questionable situations to a physician. The NP provides primary health care through assessment, diagnosis, clinical judgment and management to restore, maintain and improve the health status of patients.
Essential Functions- Administers injections, immunizations and oral medications, starts IVs
- Assists physician by recording patient progress notes, issuing diagnostic orders, and transcribing orders
- Assists with counseling and education functions
- Documents and bills patient services per CMS and NJ State Board Regulations
- Demonstrates satisfactory knowledge and judgment to provide appropriate patient care
- Develops plan of care in coordination with multidisciplinary team, completes reports to physicians and family
- Mentions and maintains patient records according to facility and nursing standards
- Establishes collaborative relationships with other medical providers
- Examines patients to determine presence of illness, utilizing physical findings, laboratory results, medical history, and prescribes treatments as indicated
- Conducts health and illness prevention instruction with patients and families
- Issues prescriptions based on Federal & State Regulations
- Orders and reviews appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures
- Reviews lab data and documents results
- Participates in protocol development
- Obtains comprehensive medical history and physical data with proper documentation
- Perform independent evaluations and treatment procedures in emergency situations
- Provides monitoring and continuity of care between physician visits
- Maintains quality and adequacy of nursing practice
- Regularly reviews and audits charts
- Sutures wounds, incises and drains wounds, repairs lacerations
- Collaborates with physician to diagnose conditions as necessary
- Master's degree in Nursing
- Registered Professional Nurse with current NJ state license
- APN License
- NP Certification
- CDS and DEA certification
- CPR certification
- BLS certification
- Three to five years of professional nursing experience
