At RWJBarnabas Health, our Same Day Surgery Registered Nurses help create a safe, coordinated, and supportive experience for patients and families throughout their surgical journey. As a Per Diem Registered Nurse in Same Day Surgery at RWJUH Rahway Hospital, you'll combine clinical expertise, thoughtful assessment, and compassionate communication to provide individualized nursing care while helping patients confidently navigate their surgical experience.
Working alongside nurses, physicians, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team, you'll promote safety, quality, and continuity of care while ensuring each patient's individual needs remain at the center of the care plan.
- Providing individualized nursing care to Same Day Surgery patients in accordance with the New Jersey Nurse Practice Act, professional nursing standards, and organizational policies
- Performing comprehensive assessments and using clinical judgment to identify each patient's individual needs and develop an appropriate plan of care
- Implementing and evaluating nursing interventions while adapting care based on patient condition, response, and identified needs
- Promoting patient safety throughout the surgical experience by recognizing potential risks and responding appropriately to changes in patient condition
- Communicating clearly and compassionately with patients and families to help them understand their care and feel supported throughout their experience
- Collaborating with nurses, physicians, and other patient care professionals to promote coordinated, efficient, and high-quality care
- Applying evidence-based nursing practices while integrating safety, quality, and the patient experience into everyday clinical decision-making
- Maintaining awareness of the unique needs and characteristics of the patient population served within the Same Day Surgery department
- Identifying and reporting safety concerns, including hazardous conditions and potential or actual medical errors, to support a culture of patient safety
- Participating in performance improvement activities and identifying opportunities to strengthen patient care, safety, quality, and departmental practices
- Maintaining professional accountability by recognizing individual learning needs and pursuing continued clinical and professional development
- You enjoy providing focused, patient-centered nursing care within a procedural or surgical environment
- Strong assessment and critical-thinking skills guide your clinical decision-making and help you respond confidently to changing patient needs
