Job Overview
The Materials and Biophysical Characterization group in the Pharmaceutical Analysis and Digital Technologies organization is seeking a highly self‑motivated and innovative Scientist - Senior Scientist level. This role focuses on biotherapeutics characterization, building mechanistic understanding of formulation, stability, device, and process interactions to ensure robustness and quality of drug substances and products.
Key responsibilities include developing and implementing biophysical and particle characterization tools, collaborating with process, formulation and device functions, authoring technical reports and regulatory documents, presenting technical data, and managing projects. The candidate will conduct independent research, publish findings, present at scientific conferences, and engage with external scientific societies.
Qualifications EducationMinimum Requirement:
Ph.D. in Biophysics, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences or related discipline (0‑4 years of relevant industry experience) or M.S. in the same or related discipline with 4‑8 years of relevant industry experience. Ph.D. candidates with expected degree conferment by Fall 2026 will be considered.
- Experience in the analysis of biologics, protein/peptide stability, and protein‑protein interactions.
- Experience with subvisible and submicron particle characterization tools (e.g., flow imaging microscopy, back grounded membrane imaging (BMI), flow cytometry, dynamic light scattering (DLS)).
- Hands‑on experience in biophysical characterization of proteins and peptides (e.g., Circular Dichroism (CD), Infrared Spectroscopy (IR), Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Analytical Ultracentrifugation (AUC)).
- Understanding of protein aggregation mechanisms and linkage between analytical methodologies.
- Ability to deliver complex objectives under aggressive timelines in a rapidly changing environment.
- Demonstrated initiative, creativity, and innovative problem‑solving skills.
- Strong teamwork and excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to work independently and cross‑functionally.
- Experience with characterization of lyophilized protein formulations.
- Experience with molecular modeling.
- Experience with biological formulation development and analytical method development.
- Familiarity with various biologics modalities including peptides, mAbs, ADCs, fusion proteins.
