Job Summary
The Materials & Biophysical Characterization (MBC) group within Pharmaceutical Analysis & Digital Technologies is seeking a Pharmaceutical Materials Scientist to lead the physicochemical characterization of pharmaceutical materials including small‑molecule APIs, intermediates, peptides, novel excipients, drug‑product intermediates, and finished products.
Key Responsibilities• Use expertise in physical organic chemistry or materials science to address challenges related to crystallization, polymorph and salt selection, drug–excipient compatibility, amorphous solid dispersion characterization, and physical stability of APIs and drug products.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams such as Discovery Chemistry, Process & Analytical Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, and Formulation Sciences to solve scientific problems.
• Build a strong internal and external network, including academic and regulatory stakeholders.
• Promote a culture of scientific excellence, compliance, and collaboration across the company.
Education Requirements- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Materials Science & Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or related discipline, with at least eight (8) years of industrial experience.
- PhD in a related discipline with at least four (4) years of industrial experience.
- Expertise in materials science or physical chemistry with experience in X‑ray diffraction, thermal analysis, electron microscopy, vibrational spectroscopy, particle size analysis, or powder property characterization.
- Strong academic record with peer‑reviewed publications and presentations at scientific meetings.
- Self‑motivated, creative, and energetic, able to solve complex problems and continually learn.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with API polymorph screening and crystallization.
- Experience characterizing amorphous solid dispersions.
- Experience with modified‑release dosage forms.
- Experience in automation and data science.
- Experience with late‑stage product development and regulatory documentation.
Salary range: $ – $ (based on education, qualifications, experience, geography, and business needs).
