Overview
The Materials & Biophysical Characterization (MBC) group within Pharmaceutical Analysis & Digital Technologies is seeking a highly motivated and technically focused Pharmaceutical Materials Scientist to contribute to the pipeline from discovery through development and commercial launch. The position involves physicochemical characterization of pharmaceutical materials including small molecule APIs, chemical intermediates, peptides, novel excipients, drug-product intermediates, and drug products.
Responsibilities- Serve as a key member of cross-functional teams to address scientific challenges related to crystallization, polymorph and salt-selection, drug–excipient compatibility, amorphous solid dispersions, and physical stability of APIs and drug products.
- Apply expertise in physical organic chemistry or materials science to drive characterization programs and technical decisions.
- Build a strong internal network and engage with external academic and regulatory communities.
- Promote a culture of scientific excellence, compliance mindset, and collaboration with partners across Discovery Chemistry, Process & Analytical Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, and Formulations Sciences.
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Materials Science and Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences or related discipline, with a minimum of five (5) years relevant industrial experience (non-academic). OR
- PhD in Materials Science and Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences or related discipline.
- Expertise in materials science or physical chemistry with experience in materials characterization techniques such as X-ray diffraction, thermal analysis, electron microscopy, vibrational spectroscopy, particle size analysis or powder property characterization.
- Strong academic record including publications in peer‑reviewed journals and presentations at scientific meetings.
- Self-motivated, creative and energetic scientist willing to continually learn and solve complex problems.
- Strong written and verbal communications.
- API polymorph screening and crystallization.
- Amorphous solid dispersion characterization.
- Modified release dosage forms.
- Automation and data science.
- Late-stage product development and regulatory documentation / filing.
- Analytical Chemistry, Analytical Method Development, Assay Development, Bioanalytical Analysis, Biochemical Assays, Cell-Based Assays, Chemical Engineering, Chemical Technology, Chromatographic Techniques, Crystallizations, GMP Environments, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Analysis, Process Analytical Technology (PAT), Ultra Performance Liquid Chromatography (UPLC).
