Research Scientist, Drug Discovery
Job Description
Principal Scientist, Drug Discovery in our Research and Development Department responsible for identifying new molecular entities and technologies for animal health from our laboratories or external partners.
The candidate will drive novel targets and lead research programs from ideation through early research and proof‑of‑concept to development stage, interfacing with researchers, senior management, and external partners within a matrix structure.
Responsibilities- Identify and validate new molecular entities and technologies for animal health.
- Advance novel targets and lead research programs from ideation to development.
- Interface with researchers, senior management, and external partners.
- Manage multiple projects, including budgets, contracts, and timelines.
- Plan, recommend, and complete research programs independently.
- Prepare executive level presentations and documents.
- Prepare patent applications to support research efforts.
- Travel as required (10%).
Education:
- DVM/VMD and PhD in experimental pharmacology (required).
Required Experience:
- Minimum 8 years industry or pharmaceutical research experience in drug discovery or preclinical research with a focus on in‑vivo pharmacology.
- Advanced scientific knowledge in pharmacology, disease mechanisms and related preclinical models.
- Expertise in at least one of oncology, diabetes, respiratory & immunology, cardiology, pain & inflammation, reproduction, drug delivery, or biotechnology.
- Knowledge of regulatory aspects including GLP, GCP, and GMP.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, budgets, contracts, and timelines.
- Ability to independently plan, recommend, and complete research programs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Experience in preparing patent applications.
Preferred Experience:
- Board certification in Pharmacology.
- Project management skills within pharmaceuticals.
- Experience developing and managing collaborations with outsource providers, vendors, contractors, and academic institutions.
- Experience working with business development to identify and license external technology opportunities.
