Accounting Manager

Lewis James Professional is a woman-owned staff augmentation, project consulting and direct hire search and placement firm. We are currently seeking a Accounting Manager for a direct hire opportunity with a financial services client.

Responsibilities:

• Serve as the embedded technical accounting resource for loan and deposit operations, advising on new products, system changes, and complex transactions.
• Interpret and apply U.S. GAAP to diverse loan and deposit structures, proactively identifying GL and balance sheet impacts.
• Provide real-time guidance to operations to prevent downstream accounting surprises.
• Own operational-level SOX controls, including documentation, testing support, remediation, and control design improvements.
• Partner with Accounting Policy, SOX, and Internal Audit to strengthen controls across functions impacting the GL.
• Ensure alignment between operational systems and the general ledger, resolving root causes of breaks.
• Provide accounting insight for month-end close, accruals, and reserve/allowance inputs.
• Safeguard proper accounting for nonaccruals, charge-offs, fees, corrections, and exception items.
• Act as the liaison between Operations and Accounting on accounting treatment, reporting impact, and controls considerations.
• Lead root cause analysis and implement sustainable solutions to reduce financial reporting risk.
• Support governance discussions related to new products, system changes, and control enhancements.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA required or strongly preferred
• 7+ years of experience
• 4+ years in public accounting auditing financial institutions
• 3–4 years in accounting at a publicly held bank
• Strong technical knowledge of U.S. GAAP related to loans, deposits, fees, interest income/expense, and complex product structures
• Experience with SOX controls in a public company environment
• Demonstrated ability to interpret authoritative guidance and apply conclusions within an operational setting
• Experience working with core banking systems and general ledger platforms
• Ability to translate complex accounting requirements into clear, practical guidance for operations
• Collaborative, partnership-oriented approach across Accounting, Operations, and Controls
