Senior Accountant

Location: Raleigh area (Onsite 5 days per week initially; flexibility introduced over time based on performance and trust)

A rapidly growing, project-based services organization is seeking a Senior Accountant to join during a critical expansion phase. This is a newly created role driven by growth and represents the most senior, day-to-day accounting presence dedicated to this business unit.

This opportunity is well-suited for a growth-oriented accounting professional who is ready to take on broader responsibility, operate with autonomy, and progress into a Controller-level role within 2-3 years. The role offers end?to?end accounting ownership, direct exposure to leadership, and the chance to help build scalable processes in a hands?on operational environment.

• Own day-to-day accounting operations, including month-end close and financial reporting.
• Maintain accurate general ledger activity across multiple related entities.
• Oversee accounts receivable, billing, cash application, and collections.
• Manage project-based accounting, including WIP tracking, job costing, and margin analysis.
• Support project billing processes (including AIA-style billing where applicable) in coordination with operations and external partners.
• Prepare monthly financial statements and support leadership discussions around results.
• Coordinate tax-related filings, audit preparation, and work with external advisors.
• Identify gaps in current processes and help design a scalable accounting structure as the business grows.
• Partner with accounting leadership across affiliated businesses to share best practices and ensure alignment.

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 3-7 years of accounting experience; candidates from public accounting, industry, or mixed backgrounds are welcome.
• Strong understanding of full?cycle accounting and month?end close.
• Project-based accounting experience preferred; WIP and job costing exposure is a strong plus.
• Comfortable working in a growing, less?structured environment with evolving processes.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, take ownership, and manage priorities with limited oversight at times.
• Strong communication skills and willingness to engage directly with operations and leadership.

• CPA or CPA-track.
• Prior exposure to AIA billing, WIP schedules, or construction?style accounting.
• Experience mentoring or reviewing work of junior accounting staff.

• Strong preference for onsite presence, especially early on.

• Occasional urgency outside standard hours; ownership mindset is critical.
