Job Description & How to Apply Below

A well-established, growing commercial and industrial services company in the Raleigh, NC area is seeking a Controller to take ownership of accounting operations, financial reporting, and internal controls. This is a newly expanded role created as the finance function scales alongside the company's growth — offering a rare opportunity to build out a Controllership function and grow into broader financial leadership over time.

Reports to: CFO

About the Opportunity

The Controller will step into full ownership of accounting operations — partnering closely with the CFO, project management, and operations teams to drive profitability, cash flow, and financial discipline across a multi-entity organization. This is an ideal opportunity for a hands‑on accounting leader ready to step up from an Assistant Controller or Accounting Manager role into a true Controller seat, with a clear path toward greater financial leadership responsibility as the organization continues to grow.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own full Controllership duties for a multi‑entity organization, including monthly, quarterly, and annual close
  • Prepare financial statements in accordance with GAAP
  • Maintain and present WIP (work‑in‑progress) schedules and job costing for active contracts
  • Support cash flow forecasting and 13‑week rolling projections
  • Play a key role in an upcoming systems integration initiative, including migration to a modern ERP platform
  • Manage AP/AR oversight, vendor and billing coordination, and lien waiver/compliance processes
  • Coordinate the year‑end audit/review with the external CPA firm
  • Support banking relationships, covenant compliance, and capital expenditure evaluation
  • Partner with the CFO on budgeting, forecasting, and strategic initiatives
  • Lead and develop a small accounting team
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Strong technical GAAP knowledge — public accounting background strongly preferred
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including people leadership experience
  • Construction or specialty trade accounting experience (job costing, WIP, percentage‑of‑completion) is a strong plus
  • Experience with ERP implementations or system conversions is a plus
  • Strong Excel skills and ability to build/maintain financial models, as well as use of AI for automation improvement
Why This Role

This is a chance to join a stable, growing company at a pivotal moment of transition. This opportunity will provide real ownership of the accounting department, a direct partnership with the CFO, and a clear trajectory toward expanded financial leadership as the organization's needs evolve.
