Accentuate Staffing is seeking a Payroll Specialist for a growing client in Raleigh, NC. This role works closely with the Payroll Administrator and Accounting team to ensure accurate payroll processing, employee record management, benefits administration, and compliance reporting. The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented professional with strong organizational skills, a collaborative mindset, and experience managing full-cycle, multi-state payroll. Construction industry experience is highly preferred.
Responsibilities- Process employee onboarding and offboarding activities, including E-Verify, background checks, motor vehicle reports, and drug screenings.
- Maintain accurate payroll records, including deductions, garnishments, benefits, bonuses, and PTO balances.
- Manage employee personnel files, ensuring records are organized, accurate, and compliant with company policies and regulations.
- Process weekly multi-state payroll accurately and on schedule.
- Support benefits administration, including health insurance, 401(k) enrollment, employee changes, and open enrollment activities.
- Respond to employee questions regarding payroll, benefits, and related programs.
- Coordinate certified payroll reporting and assist with Davis-Bacon compliance requirements.
- Support payroll, insurance, and compliance audits by preparing documentation and reports.
- Prepare weekly mileage-related job cost journal entries.
- Manage company vehicle administration, including registrations, purchases, sales, titles, toll transponders, and fleet service setup.
- Collaborate with Accounting and HR teams to support payroll-related reconciliations, reporting, and special projects.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- HR certification (SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or similar) preferred.
- 5+ years of payroll experience, preferably within the construction industry.
- Strong experience processing full-cycle, multi-state payroll and payroll tax compliance.
- Knowledge of payroll reconciliations, month-end close processes, and accounting principles.
- Familiarity with HR compliance, employment regulations, and benefits administration.
- Experience supporting certified payroll and Davis-Bacon reporting is a plus.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
- Strong organizational, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize competing deadlines, and maintain a high level of accuracy.
