We are recruiting an Assistant Controller for a growing mission-driven organization in the Raleigh area. Reporting to the Controller, this individual will play a key role in the monthly close process, financial statement preparation, audit coordination, and continuous improvement of accounting processes. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to step into a highly visible leadership role within a complex, multi-site organization.
Responsibilities- Assist in overseeing daily accounting operations, including general ledger, reconciliations, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll support, and fixed assets.
- Lead the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes while ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Prepare financial statements, supporting schedules, and management reports in accordance with GAAP.
- Support the annual financial statement audit and assist with regulatory reporting and compliance activities.
- Assist with accounting for grants, restricted funding, reimbursement programs, and other regulated revenue sources.
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff while helping establish efficient workflows and best practices.
- Partner with finance and operational leaders to improve reporting, strengthen internal controls, and enhance accounting processes.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow reporting, and financial analysis to support organizational decision‑making.
- Participate in system enhancements, process improvement initiatives, and special projects that improve operational efficiency.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CPA‑track preferred.
- Five or more years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within healthcare, nonprofit, physician practice, or another highly regulated industry.
- Strong understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, internal controls, audit preparation, healthcare reimbursement, and grant or fund accounting.
Salary range for this position will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and location. The role may be eligible for discretionary bonuses. Benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, as well as a 401(k) retirement plan.
