The Revenue Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the company’s revenue accounting in compliance with ASC 606. This includes managing the revenue recognition process, ensuring timely and accurate month-end close and providing actionable insights through reporting and analysis. The role will partner closely with Sales, Legal, and Operations to ensure proper deal understanding, billing, and reporting to support company growth and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities:Revenue Recognition & Accounting
- Lead the review, interpretation, and application of ASC 606 for customer contracts, including identifying performance obligations, determining transaction prices, allocating consideration, and recognizing revenue.
- Manage the revenue close process, ensuring timely and accurate recording of revenue transactions, journal entries, and reconciliations.
- Establish and enforce cut-off deadlines and materiality thresholds for deal inclusion in monthly close.
- Oversee automation of revenue allocations and SSP updates to reduce manual processes.
- Evaluate and document contract modifications, including determining whether a modification is accounted for as a separate contract, prospectively, or through a cumulative catch-up adjustment.
- Support the revenue workstream for acquisitions, including fair value assessment of assumed deferred revenue and alignment of acquired contracts to company revenue policy.
Process Improvements & Systems- Identify and implement process improvements to accelerate close timelines and improve data accuracy.
- Collaborate with IT to integrate Salesforce, billing systems, and ERP for syncing of deals closed in Salesforce.
- Partner with FP&A to enhance revenue forecasting and reporting capabilities, including product-level and regional revenue metrics.
Reporting & Analytics- Develop advanced reporting on revenue, contract performance, project profitability, and customer spend trends.
- Work with the AR analyst and CS teams to track and report on key revenue-related KPIs, including DSO, billing cycle times, and renewal performance.
- Build and maintain custom ERP reports to support close, audit, and reconciliation needs.
Cross-Functional Collaboration- Work with Billing and Collections to ensure timely invoicing, dispute resolution, and cash collection.
- Support audit requests related to revenue recognition.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for revenue questions from Sales, Legal, FP&A, and Operations.
Leadership & Team Development- Manage and mentor revenue accounting staff, fostering a culture of accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Provide training to staff on revenue recognition requirements and policies.
Qualifications:- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field;
- 5+ years of progressive experience in revenue accounting, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
- Strong technical knowledge of ASC 606 in a SaaS or software environment.
- Experience with ERP systems (Sage Intacct preferred), Salesforce, and BI/reporting tools.
- Proven track record in process improvement and cross-departmental collaboration.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, including the ability to translate technical accounting conclusions into plain language for non-accountants.
