Wake County Public Health is seeking an Accountant tojoin #Team Wake and help support the financial operations that keep essential public health services moving. In this role, you’ll manage a high volume of accounts payable transactions while providing fiscal analysis, resolving complex billing and payment issues, and supporting accurate and timely financial reporting.

This is an opportunity to use your accounting expertise in amission-driven public health environment, where your work directly supports the programs, services, and community partnerships that serve Wake County residents.

This position requires the ability to understand complex problems,collaborate with others, and explore alternative solutions while maintaining ahigh level of accuracy and attention to detail.

As an Accountant you will:

• Review and process a high volume of invoices, requisitions, receiving reports, monthly and quarterly board stipends, intradepartmental charge allocations, and contract encumbrance payments, via an automated financial system.
• Research and resolve various accounts payable discrepancies.
• Prepare and reconcile complex fiscal reports.
• Reconcile multiple accounts(food vouchers, procurement card transactions).
• Process fiscal year-end transactions.
• Provide technical assistance and/or fiscal training both internally and for partner agencies.
• Other duties include cross training, and special projects.

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field
• Two years of experience in accounting
• Equivalent education and experience are accepted

• Proficient working knowledge of financial data entry programs
• 3+ years of accounts payable experience in County or State Government processing and prioritizing a high volume of transactions with accuracy

• Knowledge of best practices and generally accepted accounting principles
• Knowledge of various financial systems and software
• Ability to understand, interpret, and apply fiscal policies, procedures, laws, and regulations pertaining to financial expenses
• Ability to prepare fiscal reports and analyze financial statements
• Effective Communication – clearly and concisely communication information in oral and written form
• Ability to identify errors or issues, obtain relevant information, relate, and compare data from different sources to determine possible solutions, and effectively resolve issues in a timely manner
• Teamwork, Adaptability & Flexibility - the ideal candidate will be adaptable to change and willing to incorporate other duties, such as cross training and project assignments
