The North Carolina State Highway Patrol's primary mission is to reduce collisions and make the highways of North Carolina as safe as possible. The NCSHP has more than 1,600 troopers who cover nearly 80,000 miles of North Carolina roadways, more than any other state except Texas. In addition to enforcing the state's traffic laws, state troopers also guide traffic during hurricane evacuations, re-route traffic around hazardous chemical spills, and they stand ready should any act of terrorism occur.

** Description of Work
** The NC State Highway Patrol (NCSHP) is seeking an enthusiastic team member to join our agency as an Administrative Assistant. The Administrative Assistant will provide a wide variety of administrative functions for lawyers and professional level personnel in a government law office setting.

* Knowledge of the principles and practices of tracking and processing legal documents.
* Knowledge of the principles and practices of state government.
* Knowledge of office procedures, practices, and equipment to include computer, copier, fax and scanner.
* Excellent interpersonal skills.
* Use of courtesy and tact while engaging with internal customers and in performing public contact and communication duties that may be sensitive and/or confidential in nature.
* Current North Carolina Notary Public Commission
** Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
*** Independently research issues to respond to correspondence or to facilitate a reply by the appropriate section professional, will manage the calendars for the professional staff, including the multiple department lawyers, which are extremely critical due to court and other legal deadlines.
* Position must be able to establish priorities, coordinate administrative activities and research issues needed for problem solving or decision-making as much of the correspondence is of a legal nature making it essential that immediate and appropriate action is taken.
* Position requires the ability to maintain a professional demeanor when confronted with highly sensitive issues and extremely irate, demanding, or emotionally upset individuals.
* Provides notary services to the Commander's Office and entire staff.
