About UsThe NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community.

Reporting to the Business Officer at a multi-level male correctional facility, this position will work in the Mailroom Department and may process over 850 pieces of mail while maintaining safety, security and orderly function of the facility.
Responsibilities- Processing, reviewing, and distributing all outgoing mail, packages, legal, certified, and courier mail.
- Maintaining security of the facility by searching/reviewing all incoming/outgoing mail for unauthorized items/contraband, and correspondence deemed a threat to the safety, security, and orderly function of the facility.
- Making daily deliveries to the local post office and picking up mail/packages from said local post office.
- Processing interoffice correspondence daily.
- Entering money orders, cashier/certified checks received for offenders into offender bank accounts along with cashier/certified checks received for offender into offender banking system.
- Having one-on-one contact with offenders.
- Requiring lifting of mail bags and packages up to 50 pounds.
- Possessing Work Schedule of Monday-Friday 8am to 5pm and potentially requiring working beyond normal work schedule to meet the business needs as necessary.
- Obtaining Notary Public Certification within 6-months of hire.

Salary Range $31,200 - $51,249
This posting will close at 11:59 p.m. the night BEFORE the end date listed above. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with established working hours and may require working beyond normal work schedule to meet business needs.
LocationCentral Prison in Raleigh, NC has been in continuous service since 1884. It serves as the admission point into prison for adult male felons sentenced to 20 years or more and is the main medical and mental health center for male offenders. It also houses special populations, including death row and safe-keepers. While security requires that certain offenders remain in their cells, there are more than 260 offender job assignments that include working in the kitchen, laundry, or canteen.
Offenders also work as barbers, janitors, and clerks. Offenders can attend substance abuse group therapy meetings, Bible studies or other worship services.
