Overview

The North Carolina Department of Justice represents the state, state agencies, and elected officials, and defends the rights of the people of North Carolina. This position is with the Sheriffs' Standards Division and involves evaluating applications for justice officer certification, in‑service and basic training compliance, and related administrative tasks.

Responsibilities
  • Evaluate applications for justice officer certification and in‑service and basic training compliance.
  • Evaluate responses to pending notices and cease and desist orders.
  • Monitor pending applications for second and final notices, and cease and desist orders.
  • Provide technical assistance.
  • Process changes of status, reports of separation, and fingerprint records checks.
  • Perform a variety of administrative tasks, applying guidelines and program knowledge to resolve problems.
  • Review and interpret specialized forms and documents in accordance with applicable rules and regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with procedural and operational guidelines within established time frames, choosing appropriate course of action to produce records and reports.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to learn and independently apply laws, program rules and regulations.
  • Ability to learn programs and services and apply this knowledge in problem‑solving in responding to most questions and inquiries.
  • Ability to work independently and with people with courtesy and tact in performing public contact and communication duties that may be sensitive or confidential.
  • Highly organized with an eye for detail.
  • Ability to work in close proximity to co‑workers in a cubicle environment.
Minimum Education and Experience

High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma plus two years of related administrative experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Individuals may qualify through education, experience, or a combination as described in the Education and Experience Equivalency Guide.
