About Us
The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community.

This position reports to the Deputy Warden at a multi-custody male correctional facility and operates in a high volume, fast pace environment. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Scheduling needed appointments, filing all related work, answering the telephone and making photocopies.
- Assisting in personnel roles and performing other duties as assigned by management staff.
- Maintaining files/records according to departmental policy to allow quick, easy access and retrieval of information.
- Composing memos/letters with limited instructions from supervisor and proofreading documents for spelling/punctuation/grammar.
- Inputting and comprehending computer-generated data and reviewing completed tasks to ensure accuracy/integrity of information.
- Working under stressful conditions and meeting daily/monthly deadlines, receiving/processing sectional mail, and maintaining confidentiality.
- Working well independently as well as in very close proximity to offenders and other correctional staff.

Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the Minimum Education and Experience listed on the vacancy announcement. The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)/Management Preferences are not required but applicants who possess the following skills are preferred:
- Documented composition and communication skills (written and oral).
- Documented working knowledge of word processing or spreadsheet programs.

Salary Range: $31,200 - $51,249
This posting will close at 11:59 p.m. the night BEFORE the end date listed above. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with established working hours of Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm and may require working beyond normal work schedule to meet business needs.
About Central PrisonCentral Prison in Raleigh, NC has been in continuous service since 1884. It serves as the admission point into prison for adult male felons sentenced to 20 years or more and is the main medical and mental health center for male offenders. It also houses special populations, including death row and safe-keepers. While security requires that certain offenders remain in their cells, there are more than 260 offender job assignments that include working in the kitchen, laundry or canteen.
Offenders also work as barbers, janitors and clerks. Offenders can attend substance abuse group therapy meetings, Bible studies or worship services.
High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma AND one year of administrative experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
