What You’ll Be Doing
The Detention Finance Technician is responsible for overseeing financial and property processes for confined residents within the secured area of the Wake County Detention Center. This position performs cash-handling, resident's trust fund duties and property control functions. In addition, this position ensures compliance with financial regulations, institutional policies and security procedures while maintaining accurate financial and property records.
- Inventory, document and securely store clothing and personal property belonging to residents within the secured facility
- Accurately describe and record all items received during Arrest Processing and ensure proper storage in designated property bins
- Verify resident’s identity prior to returning all property and funds to the resident upon their release
- Count and process money for incoming arrestees/residents
- Post funds to the correct resident accounts and issue accurate receipts
- Count and reconcile money to system reports
- Review and reconcile daily transactions posted to resident accounts
- Verify receipt totals, supporting documentation and system reports
- Document and resolve discrepancies in accordance with established policies and procedures
- Ensure all required paperwork is properly completed and signed prior to end-of-shift submission
- Maintain compliance with detention facility security protocols, financial regulations and institutional policies
This position requires working within the secure area of the Wake County Detention Center. Employees must adhere to all security procedures and will have direct contact with the residents. The Detention Center is a 24/7 operation, including operating during inclement weather. The position requires 12-hour shift work (7pm - 7am), including nights, holidays and alternating weekends.
