The Project Manager is responsible for leading complex, cross-functional Chemistry, Manufacturing, and Controls (CMC) projects that support business strategy, operational excellence, and organizational objectives. As a core member of a highly matrixed organization, this individual partners with business leaders, subject matter experts, and functional teams to drive the successful planning, execution, monitoring, and delivery of critical initiatives.
The ideal candidate is an exceptionally detail-oriented project management professional who can manage multiple work streams simultaneously while maintaining rigorous oversight of timelines, resources, risks, dependencies, budgets, and deliverables. This role translates business requirements into actionable project plans, establishes structure and accountability, drives project governance, and provides data-driven insights to support effective decision-making throughout the project lifecycle.
Key ResponsibilitiesProject Leadership & Execution
- Lead complex, cross-functional CMC projects from initiation through implementation and closeout.
- Develop comprehensive project plans, schedules, resource requirements, milestones, and implementation roadmaps.
- Drive execution across multiple functions to achieve project objectives, milestones, and deliverables.
- Establish project governance processes, meeting structures, decision logs, communication plans, and escalation pathways.
- Coordinate activities across cross-functional stakeholders to ensure timely completion of commitments.
- Maintain project scope and manage changes through established governance and change-control processes.
- Ensure project objectives remain aligned with broader business and organizational priorities.
Project Planning, Controls & Governance
- Maintain detailed project schedules covering milestones, dependencies, assumptions, risks, decisions, and action items.
- Monitor project performance against scope, timeline, budget, resource, and quality objectives.
- Conduct routine project reviews and provide clear, data-driven status updates to leadership and stakeholders.
- Track project metrics, KPIs, deliverables, and performance indicators to identify trends and potential gaps.
- Identify schedule and resource risks and develop contingency plans to maintain project delivery.
- Ensure project documentation is accurate, current, complete, and audit-ready.
- Drive accountability across functional teams for project actions, decisions, commitments, and deliverables.
Risk & Issue Management
- Proactively identify, assess, document, and manage project risks, issues, and dependencies.
- Develop and implement mitigation and contingency plans and monitor their effectiveness through project completion.
- Escalate critical risks, issues, and barriers to appropriate leadership with clear recommendations and potential solutions.
- Facilitate cross-functional problem-solving sessions to resolve issues and maintain project momentum.
- Evaluate impacts of risks and changes on project scope, schedule, resources, budget, and deliverables.
Stakeholder & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner effectively with functional leaders, subject matter experts, technical teams, and business stakeholders.
- Facilitate cross-functional meetings and ensure decisions, actions, and follow-ups are clearly documented.
- Build strong working relationships within a highly matrixed organization and influence stakeholders without direct authority.
- Communicate complex project information clearly and concisely to both technical and executive audiences.
- Promote transparency, accountability, and effective collaboration across project teams.
- Bachelor's degree in Project Management, Business, Life Sciences, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 5+ years of progressive project management experience, preferably within pharmaceutical, biotechnology, life sciences, manufacturing, or another highly regulated environment.
