Job Summary
This position is responsible for managing land survey vendor contracts (Land Surveying Coordinator) to provide quality land surveying services safely and cost‑effectively. The role supports a variety of surveying projects, including transmission lines, distribution lines, gas lines, dam deformations, construction staking, and land acquisitions or disposals within a designated region. The coordinator will oversee contractor performance, project scheduling, budgeting, and quality compliance.
Responsibilities- Lead and supervise survey vendor staff and external contractors for a variety of projects.
- Set leadership example through professionalism, customer service, and honest communication.
- Coordinate project scope, estimate costs, generate requests for quotes, and input data into the work management tool.
- Monitor contractors to ensure adherence to schedules, budgets, and Duke Energy technical specifications.
- Inspect and review survey deliverables for quality, accuracy, and compliance.
- Review invoices, recommend payments, and advise on cost overruns.
- Provide regular progress reports and feedback to management.
- Facilitate problem resolution between internal departments, vendors, and governmental agencies.
- Maintain safety and environmental compliance, ensuring all parties are trained and qualified.
- Participate in professional organizations and stay updated on laws, regulations, and industry best practices.
Required Qualifications (Land Surveying Coordinator)
- Associate’s degree in Surveying and Topography or related field AND at least 2 years of related work experience, OR
- High School/GED AND at least 4 years of related work experience.
Required Qualifications (Senior Land Surveying Coordinator)
- Associate’s degree in Surveying and Topography or related field AND at least 5 years of related work experience, OR
- High School/GED AND at least 7 years of related work experience.
- Professional Land Surveyor certification.
- Ability to coordinate and direct all phases of contract and strong project management skills.
- Excellent organization, documentation, and communication skills.
- Proven ability to read construction plans and perform complex computations using standard surveying software.
- Critical thinking and decision‑making skills to overcome obstacles.
- Knowledge of laws, regulations, and professional surveying practices.
- Experience with high voltage transmission route surveys and Duke’s real estate and rights‑of‑way.
The role requires field mobility with frequent visits to contract surveying firms and field projects in varied weather conditions. Occasional regional travel is expected. The position is located in Eastern North Carolina, with the preferred locations being Raleigh, NC or Wilmington, NC.
