Field Operations Manager - Self Perform Grading & Infrastructure

Full Time Senior Management Raleigh, Raleigh, NC, US

At Clancy & Theys, we believe Careers Are Built the Clancy Way — with a commitment to safety, stewardship, passion, and collaboration. As a premier commercial construction firm with a long-standing reputation across the Southeast, we're growing our self-perform grading and infrastructure capabilities in the Triangle.

The Opportunity

We're looking for an experienced Field Operations Manager to lead and grow our self-perform grading and infrastructure operations throughout the Raleigh-Durham market.

You'll oversee the planning, staffing, equipment, financial performance, and field execution of multiple projects, including grading, earthwork, utilities, storm drainage, trucking, and site development. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who knows civil construction, understands the local market, and can build high-performing teams while driving safety, productivity, quality, and profitability.

Key Responsibilities

Lead day-to-day self-perform grading and infrastructure operations across multiple projects.

Develop manpower, equipment, and project execution plans.

Coordinate with project management and company leadership to deliver work safely, efficiently, on schedule, and within budget.

Conduct regular field visits to evaluate staffing, equipment, production, and performance.

Recruit, hire, develop, and retain craft labor and field supervision.

Mentor foremen, operators, drivers, mechanics, and laborers while establishing clear performance expectations.

Oversee company-owned and rented equipment, trucking, fleet resources, maintenance, and repairs.

Manage equipment tracking and telematics systems and support equipment procurement and long-term fleet planning.

Champion Clancy & Theys' safety culture and OSHA compliance.

Coordinate with local inspection agencies on erosion and sediment control, stormwater compliance, and permitting.

Build strong relationships with equipment dealers, haulers, trucking providers, subcontractors, suppliers, quarries, and service providers.

Participate in estimating, budgeting, forecasting, cost control, and change management.

Review civil plans and specifications to identify risks, opportunities, and resource requirements.

Monitor labor, material, equipment, trucking, and subcontractor costs.

Identify opportunities to improve productivity, field execution, and cost competitiveness.

Qualifications

15+ years of progressive experience
supervising and managing self-perform grading, sitework, utility, or heavy civil construction operations.

Proven experience with mass grading, earthwork, underground utilities, storm drainage, site development, and infrastructure projects.

Experience hiring, leading, mentoring, and developing field personnel.

Demonstrated experience with budgeting, forecasting, resource planning, cost control, and equipment management.

Extensive knowledge of the Raleigh-Durham/Triangle construction market.

Established relationships with local subcontractors, haulers, suppliers, and service providers preferred.

Skills & Knowledge Requirements

Strong understanding of civil construction means, methods, sequencing, and production.

Ability to read and interpret grading plans, utility plans, specifications and construction documents.

Strong knowledge of equipment utilization, trucking operations, fleet management, and field productivity.

Understanding of erosion and sediment control, stormwater compliance, and permitting requirements.

Strong leadership, communication, organization and problem-solving skills.

Ability to supervise and manage multiple projects, crews, and priorities in the fast-paced environment.

Hands‑on leadership style with the ability to balance strategic planning with day‑to‑day field needs.

Commitment to safety, quality, accountability, and continuous improvement.

This is an opportunity to help build something. As we expand our self‑perform grading and infrastructure capabilities, you’ll help shape our teams, systems, equipment strategy, and field operations throughout the Triangle.

If you’re a civil construction leader who knows how to build teams, solve problems, and get work done, we’d like to hear from you.

Build the team. Lead the operation. Drive the growth.
Build Your Career The Clancy Way.
