WRAL is seeking an experienced, dynamic, and versatile Anchor/Reporter who is passionate about telling impactful stories across all platforms. This role involves anchoring newscasts, producing high‑quality content, and delivering compelling live reporting from the studio and the field. Candidates must excel in writing, shooting, editing, and publishing news across television, digital, and streaming platforms, including , WRAL apps, WRAL News+, You Tube, and others.

Key Responsibilities News Presentation & Anchoring
  • Deliver news and information during live newscasts, special reports, and continuous coverage.
  • Anchor from both the studio and the field with the ability to ad‑lib and handle unscripted breaking news events.
  • Write and present news clearly, engagingly, and with journalistic integrity.
News Production & Content Creation
  • Produce, shoot, write, and edit stories for all WRAL platforms.
  • Develop original content and enterprise storytelling, particularly with a focus on local relevance and accountability.
  • Utilize graphics and other visual elements to enhance storytelling clarity and impact.
Multiplatform Reporting
  • Report across all WRAL platforms, including TV, digital channels, You Tube, and social media.
  • Pitch detailed, in‑depth story ideas to create distinct and original content.
Collaboration & Editorial Contribution
  • Work closely with producers, photographers, and the editorial team to shape newscasts and digital packages.
  • Contribute ideas during editorial meetings and help shape news coverage.
Audience Engagement
  • Build and maintain a strong rapport with the WRAL audience through social media, community involvement, and public appearances.
  • Actively engage with viewers and respond to feedback professionally and courteously.
Research & Development
  • Research topics thoroughly to ensure factual and contextually accurate reporting.
  • Stay informed on current events, emerging issues, and industry best practices.
  • Participate in ongoing training to sharpen on‑air delivery and storytelling abilities.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or related field.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in broadcast journalism, including on‑air reporting or anchoring.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong editorial judgment and a commitment to ethical journalism.
  • Proficiency in news production tools and editing software.
  • Skilled in shooting and editing video using industry‑standard equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle breaking news and live situations under pressure.
  • Experience using social media professionally to support storytelling and audience connection.
  • Deep commitment to public service journalism and community engagement.
  • High standards of accuracy, fairness, and integrity.
  • Strong sense of initiative and creativity.

Physical Demands
  • Extended periods of standing/sitting in a stationary position as needed for writing/reporting, conducting research, or supporting the broadcasting function.
  • Manual dexterity: frequent use of hands and fingers to operate computers, editing equipment, microphones, and monitors.
  • Lifting & carrying equipment: occasionally required to lift, carry, and set up production equipment, such as cameras, tripods, and lighting gear (up to 25 lbs).
  • Visual & auditory requirements: strong eyesight and hearing are necessary to monitor audio levels and video/image quality.
  • Mobility & stamina: ability to move between studios and the newsroom as needed, sometimes in fast‑paced environments.
  • Analytical mindset: ability to learn quickly and stay engaged in newest tools, formats and techniques for managing newsroom content.
