Senior Sign Fabricator

We are seeking a detail-oriented and creative Senior Transportation Graphic Technician to join our team who can train and lead Sign Fabricators or temporary staff in sign fabrication techniques, equipment safety, and best practices. In this role, you will design, fabricate, and maintain traffic and transportation signage using industry-standard software and equipment throughout the City of Raleigh. • Trains and leads Sign Fabricators or temporary staff in sign fabrication techniques, equipment safety, and best practices
• Design, fabricate, and repair traffic and roadway signage using software such as Flexi
  
  SIGN, Adobe Creative Suite, and CorelDRAW
• Operate and maintain large‑format printing equipment, including Roland and Mimaki printers, plotters, and related sign‑making tools
• Assist in developing signage concepts and layouts based on project specifications and guidelines
• Review, prioritize, and organize daily work orders to ensure deadlines and quality standards are met
• Monitor inventory levels of materials and supplies and recommend reordering to ensure consistent workflow
• Deliver signs to worksite locations, assist sign installers, and/or conduct site visits with supervisor, manager, or a sign installer
• Maintains detailed records of sign work
• Perform additional duties as required in support of departmental operations and public safety

6+ months of training beyond High School Diploma; 3 to 5 years’ in graphic design, sign fabrication, installation and maintenance or related work.

Any equivalent combination of training and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted.

• Valid North Carolina Class C Driver’s License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire

• Principles and practices of graphic design and layout
• Traffic and roadway signage standards (e.g., MUTCD – Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices)
• Operation and maintenance of large‑format printing equipment (e.g., Roland printers, plotters)
• Materials and substrates commonly used in sign fabrication (e.g., vinyl, reflective sheeting, aluminum)
• Safety procedures and protocols related to sign fabrication and installation
• Inventory control practices and basic supply chain management
• File formats and design workflows for print production

• Proficient in design software including Flexi
  
  SIGN, Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop), and CorelDRAW
• Skilled in operating large‑format printers, laminators, cutters, and plotters
