Position: Pain Management Physician (MD/DO) - North Carolina Pain Management

Overview

UNC Health / North Carolina Pain Management seeks an experienced Pain Management Physician employed through UNC Health Rex. The North Carolina Neuroscience & Spine Center provides specialized care for individuals with back pain, prioritizing a conservative approach and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team.

Job Responsibilities
  • Discuss medical history with patients to acquire knowledge of healthcare practices.
  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments to diagnose pain conditions.
  • Create and discuss a pain management treatment plan with patients.
  • Treat patients by employing interventional techniques such as injections and/or other devices.
  • Prescribe medications, if applicable.
  • Refer patients for laboratory and diagnostic tests and assess medical results.
  • Educate patients on pain management and lifestyle changes.
  • Communicate pertinent medical records to appropriate specialists as needed.
Required

Skills and Qualifications
  • Strong knowledge of pain mechanisms and pharmacology.
  • Proficient in interventional pain procedures, joint injections, nerve blocks, and epidural injections.
  • Working knowledge of medical equipment such as C-Arm.
  • Effective analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary care team in a clinic setting.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Patience, compassion, and the ability to empathize with patients in pain.
  • Passionate about pain management and dedicated to providing high‑quality and safe patient care.
Education & Experience Requirements
  • A medical degree from an accredited institution.
  • Valid state medical license.
  • Board certification in Pain Management.
  • Dual board certification – Pain Management and Anesthesia (preferred).
  • Experience with a wide range of pain management practices.
