Position Description

Pay Grade:
Specialist 7

This position will provide information and guidance to students and others regarding the VA Educational benefits process while ensuring compliance with the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA). The individual in this position will also perform specialized tasks that only VA approved officials are qualified to do and serve as a liaison between the college and the DVA.

Responsibilities and Duties (
* Essential Functions)

* Serves as a VA School Certifying Official for veteran students receiving Federal GI Bill benefits; prepares Veterans Affairs education benefits, certifications, and change of status reports for electronic submission to the Veterans Affairs Regional Office (VARO)

* Reviews academic evaluations, enrollment, and student requirements to ensure compliance with DVA regulations

* Process changes in enrollment status for adds, drops, and schedule changes; submit related reports to the Department of Veterans Affairs

* Responds to inquiries: student/parents; VA, college, and external organization via telephone, email, facsimile and face to face contact

* Utilizes in-person, written and web-based material to provide information and guidance to potential students and current students in the area of the veterans' educational benefits and eligibility

* Provides academic program advising to veterans and dependent students who are eligible to receive DVA education benefits, and ensures compliance with unique DVA policies and requirements

Provides comprehensive customer service in a high volume, challenging, and fast-paced environment

Monitors VA funded payments to students as directed; follows up with and resolve tuition payment and discrepancy issues; investigates delays and clarification of payments with VA

Assists with interpreting, explaining and implementing VA policies as they relate to all aspects of veteran student aid

Monitors veteran students' academic progress, course enrollment, and other reporting requirements to DVA

Maintains files and prepares reports and correspondence

Assists veteran students with answering routine and complex inquiries

Conducts Veterans Affairs education benefits workshops as needed

Travels to and provides services at multiple Wake Tech campus locations on a rotating basis as assigned

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Intermediate skills in MS Word, Power point, and Excel

Excellent organizational skills

Ability to maintain records accurately and to meet deadlines consistently

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Ability to work with a high degree of accuracy in a fast-paced office environment

Ability to interpret federal regulations

Knowledge of Department of Veteran Affairs regulations, educational benefits and eligibility requirements

Requirements:

Associate degree and one year of experience working with VA education benefits or other VA regulation program positions OR

High School diploma or equivalent and three years experience working with VA education benefits or other VA regulation program positions

Valid Driver's license and approval required by the College's liability insurance carrier

Preferences:

Previous experience working at a post-secondary institution

Previous experience counseling veterans or students
