The North Carolina State University Design Lab for K-12 Education and Outreach is hiring four Lead Staff for Design Camp 2026. Design Camp is a pre‑college program series hosted at the College of Design, including Middle School Day Camp, High School Explorations Day Camp, Design Fundamentals Day Camp, High School Explorations Residential Camp, Design Immersions Residential Program, and Design Connections Residential Experience.

Job Duties
- Work with Studio Instructors, Teaching Assistants, the Design Lab Director, and the Coordinator of Pre‑College Programs to ensure a safe and successful camp experience.
- Hold a high level of responsibility and authority over Design Camp counselors and campers.
- Assist with all organizational and logistical aspects of Design Camp.
- Plan and lead portions of the Counselor Training Retreat.
- Prepare materials for campers and design camp activities.
- Manage inventory, space planning, and cleanup in Leazar Hall.
- Support counselors and campers during all camp sessions, including residential programs.
- Coordinate end‑of‑camp cleanup and inventory on August 5, 2026.
During the preparation period (February – May 2026): 5 – 15 hours per week, determined by the Coordinator of Pre‑College Programs. During the camp season (June – August 2026): full engagement in all camp activities, including overnight stays during residential programs. Additional prep work may be required during Program Weeks 1–2 and 3–4, compensated through an end‑of‑summer bonus.
Minimum Experience & Education- 1+ summers working with youth in a summer camp environment (at least one Design Camp session required; day and residential camp experience preferred).
- NC State College of Design student or alumni.
- Leadership experience, excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
- Ability to lift and carry 25–75 lbs., including crouching, standing, walking, stair climbing, and general physical strength.
- Experience working with youth in a summer camp environment.
- NC State College of Design student or alumni.
- Leadership, interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to follow instructions, strong work ethic and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to handle high levels of responsibility.
- Valid driver’s license and access to vehicle.
- Physical ability to lift and carry 25–75 lbs. with or without reasonable accommodation.
Anticipated Hiring Range:
February – Mid‑May, $15 per hour;
Mid‑May – August, lump sum during each Design Camp session ($5,000 – $7,500).
