The Global Training Initiative ( GTI ) at North Carolina State University enhances international partnerships and global competency among NC State students and faculty, businesses in North Carolina, and people around the world through a variety of short‑time academic programs and training opportunities. The GTI partners with NC State units, North Carolina businesses, federal and state agencies, and overseas partners on academic and internship opportunities, international grants and short‑term professional training programs.

The purpose of this position is to provide online professional instruction to overseas teachers in the area of ESL / EFL or professional EFL for Special Purposes. Courses may range from 8 to 40 weeks. Instructors may be eligible to teach 1-5 classes in 1 to 3 programs/courses each week as needed and/or desired.

Appointment Length:
June 1, 2026 to May 31, 2027 (up to one year as needed).

Position Information Requirements and Preferences

Work schedule is to be determined, but may include daytime, early morning, or late evening hours to accommodate class sessions to be offered in different world regions.

Other Work/Responsibilities
  • Instructors will teach one or multiple online classes from their home computer via ZOOM. Participants may be anywhere in the world. Number of hours per week and dates will vary.
  • Instructors will also meet as needed with the Academic Director to review the curriculum, assignments, participant progress, and any potential problems or questions.
  • Two years or more of part‑time experience teaching English as a Second or Foreign Language.

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
  • Master’s degree in relevant field preferred
  • Experience teaching and/or supervising ESL / EFL teachers
  • Foreign language and/or overseas life/work experience preferred
  • Conducting large synchronous online classes of 75 or more students/participants

Anticipated Hiring Range Salary range is between $40 to $65 per contact hour depending on length and type of course, number of participants, and experience.
