Reporting to the Head of the Department of Social Work Sociology and Justice Studies, the Assistant/Associate Professor or Instructor of Social Work is responsible for teaching a variety of undergraduate courses in Social Work, academic advising and organizing co‑curricular activities.
Essential Job Functions- Teaching freshmen, sophomore, junior and senior level courses in the Social Work Discipline. (Teaching Load: up to 15 credit hours per semester.)
- Maintain professional scholarship.
- Effectively advise students through matriculation, sharing academic and student resource information when applicable.
- Maintain scheduled office hours and ensure posting of hours is available for students.
- Effectively manage the classroom environment.
- Develop, maintain, and submit accurate, timely and complete records (attendance, assignments, grades, end of course notebooks, etc.).
- Conduct research suitable for an academic or professional audience.
- Participate in course and curriculum development.
- Mentor part‑time faculty and students.
- Provide service to the School and University (e.g., committee membership).
- Serve the School, the University, the profession, and community as appropriate.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Regularly organize, schedule and document collaboration meetings with other program colleagues.
- Discuss matters related to the students in the applicable program.
- Assess and review the needs of the program (faculty, supplies, instrumentation, etc.).
- Make program curriculum revisions and recommendations aimed to address current market trends.
- Coordinate activities with colleagues to enhance teaching and the learning process.
- Act as the primary faculty academic advisor for the students in the program.
- Disseminate information to students relating to internships and job opportunities, research, seminars, graduate schools, scholarships, supporting programs, tutoring, etc.
- Compose an annual strategic plan and assessment plan for the applicable academic program.
- Submit an annual assessment plan and report.
- Serve as an advisor for New Student Orientation and summer programs, as needed.
- Assure submission of textbook orders for all relevant program courses.

Education and/or Experience- Master’s degree in Social Work or related discipline from an accredited institution of higher learning.
- PhD. Preferred.
- Minimum of two years’ experience in an academic setting required.
- Should relate well with others and promote a positive demeanor.
Must possess the minimum credential standards of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), which normally include at least 18 graduate semester credit hours in the subject area or suitable approved justifications.

Must be able to read, write and speak fluently in English.
Ability to sit or stand for up to 8 hours/day. Some lifting (up to 25 pounds occasionally), bending, and carrying. Specific vision abilities include the ability to use close vision. The employee is regularly required to talk and hear, and to use hands and fingers to handle or feel.
