Position Summary
Assistant Professor – Robotics & Sensors in the Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering, College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and College of Engineering at NC State University.
Responsibilities- Develop a nationally recognized research, teaching, and extension program focused on intelligent sensing, automation, and data‑driven decision support for agriculture and food systems.
- Advance robotics, sensing, and AI technologies, including field‑deployable sensors, biosensors, robotic and cyber‑physical systems for controlled environment agriculture, precision livestock farming, and AI‑enabled decision analytics.
- Lead innovation in scalable, field‑ready platforms that integrate robotics, sensing, and AI to deliver resilient, data‑secure, and farmer‑friendly technologies.
- Teach upper‑level undergraduate and graduate courses on sensors and controls, and develop additional courses in robotics, circuits, electronics, or data‑driven decision systems.
- Mentor students in cross‑disciplinary teams, advise the department’s robotics team, and collaborate across disciplines to attract extramural funding.
- Ph.D. in Biological and Agricultural Engineering or an equivalent engineering discipline.
- Demonstrated ability to build a strong research, extension, and teaching program.
- Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Current registration and/or qualification for licensure as a professional engineer (highly desired).
- Valid North Carolina driver’s license or ability to obtain one within 60 days.
